What is \/ are cloud applications?<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n

First, let\u2019s start with the definition of cloud<\/b>. There are lots of differing opinions on this, but basically it boils down to 2 aspects.<\/p>\n

If the service is…<\/strong> 1. On the Internet and 2. Distributed (and therefore highly available\/ available all the time) then we can consider it to be ‘On The Cloud<\/strong>‘ \/ Cloud based<\/strong>. Or in other words, a service which runs online (take your pick as to what type of service) and has no single point of failure.<\/p>\n

Breaking this down further, we know that a website is on the Internet. A website also requires the following attributes of distribution:<\/p>\n

A website is pretty much a combination of these things:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Domain name: You need a domain name so that there\u2019s actually a way of getting to your website.<\/li>\n
  2. Website files: The files of your website are your code, images, css, etc.<\/li>\n
  3. Database: The database is where your user logins or shopping basket items are stored (drives the website and stores data)<\/li>\n
  4. Something to serve it over the network (Internet), the webserver: The actual hardware and software combo which makes it all happen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    So, is a Website cloud based? Yes!<\/h5>\n
